Childhood and Early Education

It was a bright sunny day when Naveen was born on September 2, 1973 in Mississauga, Ontario. His curious nature was very evident from the way he looked around the delivery room, his bright eyes wide open, just a few minutes after he was born. As a baby, he enjoyed being with people. He laughed out loud at the age of two months, began walking well before he was one year old, recognized and called out the letters of the alphabet at the age of 15 months. His formal education started when he was two years old at the Tiny Tots program in Oakville Ontario, followed by Montessori school at the age of three. He enjoyed going to school and being with other children. He could already read a book before entering Kindergarten at the Falgarwood Public School. His teachers had nothing but praise for him, which was expressed during parent teacher interviews, as well as in his report cards each year. In Grade 4, he was identified as “gifted”, and was sent to a special school for gifted children. Naveen continued to exhibit his brilliance in all his activities. In grade 7, he joined Appleby College, a private school in Oakville, Ontario. He enjoyed the various activities offered at this school ranging from wilderness survival training to an international student exchange program, which allowed him the opportunity to live in Germany when the Berlin Wall fell. Naveen excelled in all academic areas and won the Fulford Debating League Championship in 1991. The friendships he forged here, and in his later life, stayed strong throughout his life because of his uniquely wonderful, caring and selfless character and his inimitable sense of humour.
