Impact of Dr. Naveen A. Deshpande

Naveen was an amazing person. Travelling to new places, learning about different cultures and making new friends was very dear to him. Though young, he was extremely well travelled, having explored Canada, USA, Europe, India, Russia, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Mexico, Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, and Peru. Naveen was a true ‘all-rounder’. He enjoyed playing baseball, softball, squash and golf. In spite of his busy life as a resident, Naveen made time for swimming and bicycling. Naveen earned the love and respect of his family, friends and colleagues because of his dedication to his chosen profession, his thoughtfulness, selflessness, and his acute sense of humour. His medical colleagues and senior staff members at UBC considered him to be an excellent physician and neurologist. His patients loved him for his personal and caring approach to them as evidenced by the number of “Thank You” letters and cards he received from them. The impact Naveen had on the people who knew him is very evident from a comment one of his friends made that he would like his son to grow up to be like Naveen and his daughter to marry someone like Naveen. Naveen will be always remembered fondly by his family and friends and his memory will live on through the Annual Dr. Naveen Deshpande Neurology Lectureship Series established at the University of British Columbia.
